The Directors

John Jeffries

John Jeffries
– Managing Director

John Jeffries was born in the UK, and, having graduated in Economics from the University of Bath began a career in Retail Training. In 2006, he took the skills he developed in facilitating training and people development into the F2F fundraising sector, with Fundraising Initiatives, based in London. During this time he developed an affinity for the needs of his clients and an in-depth knowledge of the field practices of F2F Fundraising (the good and the bad).

In 2009 he was approached to manage the London and South East of England in-house F2F team for the RSPB, a large British Conservation charity, and was able to employ more progressive forms of management to develop a high quality team of F2F Fundraisers. In 2011 he took over the national operations management for teams across England.

Later on that year, the opportunity to work for SOS Children’s Villages as their International F2F Specialist arose and, based from the international office in Vienna, John provided F2F Fundraising consultancy services across the Federation. This time included working closely on the setting up of new F2F fundraising operations in Croatia, Colombia, Russia; and supporting existing operations in traditional markets like Germany, Norway, Spain and developing markets like Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Poland.

At the end of his contract, John accepted a post with Save the Children as their International F2F Manager and was seconded to Save the Children South Africa. He personally managed building a successful agency relationship and the setting up of an in-house F2F team that, together, will recruit in excess of 8,000 committed givers in 2014.

John speaks internationally on the subject of F2F Fundraising, Coaching and Motivation.

Keith Wiser

Keith Wiser
– Director

For more than 40 years, since he began studying psychology at Sheffield University, Keith has been fascinated by what makes people tick. In his business career he has pursued this in the fields of sales, sales training, sales management, advertising and marketing. He has held senior advertising, sales and marketing management positions in the UK, the Middle East as well as South Africa.

His initial advertising agency (The AdCo) won numerous creative awards in South Africa, the UK and the United States in the late eighties and early nineties – many in the field of direct marketing.

Over the past 15 years his interest has increasingly focussed on the use of information and technology to create and maintain customer loyalty. This culminated in the formation of 5th Dimension in March 2000.

Today 5th Dimension is South Africa’s leading, boutique direct marketing agency. It also places great emphasis on the work it does for international NGOs like SOS Children’s Villages, Save the Children, Starfish Foundation and MSF. It is noteworthy that 5th Dimension has won more awards for fundraising that any other South African agency.

Keith was a Director of the South African Direct Marketing Association for four years. He regularly presents papers at South African and international marketing conferences. He is also a regular contributor to online and offline marketing magazines in South Africa, the UK and the United States.

Keith has been a judge at the Assegai (Direct Marketing) Awards every year since their inception. In 2008 Keith was elected by the South African Direct Marketing Association as “The Direct Marketer of the Year”. The following year he was elected to the Direct Marketing “Hall of Fame”. This back to back feat has never been achieved by any other individual.

Face-to-Face Fundraising

Face to Face Training

Training

All FTW Facers are full time employed members of staff. We do not outsource any of our field related activities. All FTW Facers are paid a generous basic salary, on top of which they are paid a commission based on the initial attrition rate of the donors they acquire for our clients.

FTW has a rigorous training and selection policy. We vet the applicants and arrange telephone interviews as appropriate. Those that then pass the telephone interview are invited to a two day training and selection process. This interactive and multimedia workshop covers all aspects of best practice in F2F Fundraising.

At the end of these two days, we select only those who have demonstrated the right skills and attitudes and offer them a position with FTW.

With all of the fundraiser training, we warmly invite representatives from client organisations to attend, and look forward to any feedback on how the offering might be more closely tailored to their needs.

FTW believes that it offers the highest quality F2F fundraising available in SA, and at a standard that rivals any training available anywhere in the world.

Minimising Attrition

Minimising Attrition

The most important focus for effective F2F Fundraising is to minimise attrition.

As well as the highest levels of fundraiser training, FTW uses a variety of means to reduce pledge donor attrition :

  1. A minimum age of 25 for all recruited pledge donors.
  2. A requirement that all donors be employed.
  3. 100% of pledge donors have a validated telephone number and FTW uses its best endeavours to ensure that both landline and cellular numbers are captured. A welcome SMS is sent to all donors at the point of sign up and a welcome call made within 72 hours of sign up.
  4. A minimum of 90% of donors have a validated email address. Email verification is conducted at point of sign up and all pledge donors are sent a welcome email on the day of sign up.
  5. All bank account details go through modular bank checking at the point of sign up.
